SEMrush Review: Solid Marketing Toolkit

October 29, 2018 • By

This SEMrush review assesses its principal marketing features, the corresponding capabilities, plus the prices you’re expected to pay for the whole service. And, of course, I’ll also let you in on what you might not like about it.

You’ve built an ecommerce site. A solid one for that matter. Or you’ve probably had one for quite a while now.

Well and good. Now, let’s engineer your way to the top of the food chain.

Regardless of your specific industry, the most important need now is customers. So, of course, you have no option now but to invest in marketing.

First off, search engine optimization goes without saying. Search is, by far, the top online activity today. And 66% of the corresponding individual queries usually lead to one or more clicks. The average close rate of the subsequent flow of search leads is 14.6%.

So, here’s the deal. In addition to the SEO experts you’ve already thought about, you’ll have to get yourself good SEO software.

By now, I assume you’ve already crossed over to that other strategy commonly linked with that. Considering 72% of marketers agree that content is the most effective SEO strategy, you’d be right if you also introduced a content solution.

Well, SEO might get you noticed by prospective leads, but establishing an audience is best done through social networking. 95% of online users aged between 18 and 34 will most likely follow a brand through via social media.

So, consider throwing in a social media marketing solution to the whole mix.

Then, you might want to take shortcuts from time and time. This is the point where we think of paid advertising, which generates leads who are 50% more likely to buy compared to organic visitors. And into the marketing tool-bag, we add a paid advertising solution.

Everything sounds good so far? Now, be warned. Your rivals are not going to just sit there are watch you trample them under your feet.

Let me say this straight.  You have no choice but to play smart here. That means getting a neat war chest. And a competitor intelligence tool would be a great thing to start with.

In a nutshell, that’s quite a solid list of tools you already have there, I’ll admit. But, here’s the interesting thing. You can get all of them bundled in one comprehensive toolkit.

Heard of SEMrush?

SEMrush Reviews: Overview

Don’t get me wrong. Embedding numerous marketing tools into your online store is totally fine. Besides, come to think of it, that would be an ideal strategy to sample the best there is out there in each category.

But, here’s the problem. Each of them will operate individually, consequently complicating your entire marketing structure. Plus, you might end up with a big fat bill to pay at the beginning of each subscription month.

And that’s why they established SEMrush in 2008. Quite simply, a full-stack marketing suite with insights on all the essential marketing channels.

Well, there are many ways to define what SEMrush is all about. Overall, however, it’s a comprehensive toolkit that combines social media marketing, backlinking, keyword research, SERP assessment, paid advertising, content marketing, PPC, competitor intelligence, and search engine optimization.

Going by recent trends in the online marketing space, both individuals and enterprises are loving this streamlined approach. As a result, SEMrush has managed to acquire over a million subscribers in 10 years.

Fair enough. But, at the end of the day, it all boils down to one thing. How well the solution is actually suited to your particular needs.

So, stay with me as I walk you through all that matters. This SEMrush review assesses its principal marketing features, the corresponding capabilities, plus the prices you’re expected to pay for the whole service. And, of course, I’ll also let you in on what you might not like about it.

SEMrush Reviews: Features

Powered Search Engine Optimization

Worried about the most ideal Google keywords for your site?

To help you find those valuable, golden keywords that would propel your site to the first page, SEMrush offers organic research.

How does it work?

It essentially reviews keywords on all the crucial parameters- search volume, competitive density, CPC, and general trends.

SEMrush organic research

And the best part? It doesn’t end there. To complement your keyword framework, SEMrush delves into the more technical aspects of SEO like backlinks and page loading speeds.

It achieves this through its site audit feature, which scans all your web pages to identify issues affecting content, HTTPs implementation, images, AMP, hreflang attributes, loading times, etc. This is where you get to learn about all the little things that might be holding back your site.

Now, of course, identifying is only the first part. Resolving everything accordingly is arguably more important. And, sadly, it’s also the difficult stage.

But, it turns out SEMrush is also well-equipped for this. In addition to pointing out possible errors, it goes ahead to suggest ways you can correct them- based on current ranking parameters.

Then, when it comes to ranking, SEMrush keeps you adequately informed through its position tracker. It goes beyond Google’s main site to keep tabs on your site’s ranking across multiple search engines- including the local versions. As a result, you get important updates immediately search engines change your site’s position in the SERP.

Valuable Information on Paid Advertisements

Ok, there’s no denying that search engine traffic is driven by organic search.

But, not entirely. Searches by consumers seeking specific products to buy usually end up with 65% of the clicks going to paid ads. Pretty much explains why Adwords alone generates about $2 for every $1 spent.

The bottom line is that paid ads are here to stay. You cannot afford to rule them out, especially if you have SEMrush on your side.

One of its outstanding functionalities here is the ability to identify those pesky ad mistakes that you might have missed. Like, for example, it can spot PPC AdWords that have been set up to compete with each other, resulting in a poor lead generation process.

And to further refine your paid ads, SEMrush also provides an Ad Builder, which is basically optimized for creating suitable ads. It uses several methodologies, including assessing your competitors’ best practices, establishing numerous effective templates, and providing dynamic keyword insertion.

Boosting Content Efficacy

Paid search can be effective, as we’ve established. But, content marketing is even better, with potentially three times as many leads on average. And, compared to outbound marketing, content is still 200% more effectual at generating traffic. Plus, it goes without saying that Google relies heavily on content when it comes to search engine ranking.

We’ve already seen how SEMrush facilitates keyword research. That alone should point you towards the right keywords to focus your content strategy on.

Then the killer move comes in form of topic research, which SEMrush uses to give you critical insights on subjects that will attract the numbers.

And finally, to finish it off, brand monitoring will help you establish the best channels for distributing your content.

Monitoring Social Media

SEMrush is not all about search engines. It also powers social media marketing by not only tracking sites, but also facilitating the posting process.

In addition to learning about pertinent trending subjects on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+, you get to establish the most ideal content for your prospects, generate corresponding PDF reports, and monitor critical parameters across all your social media accounts. This is particularly crucial to businesses that outsource account management to third-party marketing agencies.

SEMrush social media

Needless to say, you still have considerably good chances without agency backing, thanks to the SEMrush social media poster. It’s capable of automating, queuing, and scheduling posts, in addition to facilitating simultaneous posting on numerous sites.

And to identify the most effective social media strategies, SEMrush also lets you spy on your rivals’ accounts. It generates data on their best-performing posts, engagement patterns, and individual success rates.

Competitive Intelligence

We’ve gone through several helpful features already. However, competitive intelligence is, admittedly, SEMrush’s principal strong point.

The system generates information on your competitors’ social media marketing tactics, organic keywords, SEO strategies, content status, and ranking positions.

Then, it analyzes traffic to inform you of your rivals’ sources of traffic and the corresponding traffic patterns, plus marketing tactics that have been generating leads. The consequent metrics then come in handy when you’re also seeking to compare your domain against others in the same field.

SEMrush traffic analytics

And guess what? It’s also possible to identify rivals who’ve been surviving on paid ads. The advertising research feature digs through their individual PPC strategies, ad spending, top results, overall trends, plus mobile and desktop keywords.

Who Should Consider Using SEMrush?

As we wind down, let’s go through SEMrush’s weak points.

For starters, going by the pricing structure, SEMrush does not come cheap at all. But, I guess we could also agree that the odds might shift in its favor if we factored in the cost of leveraging numerous tools, as opposed to one comprehensive suite.

Secondly, while SEMrush comes with a simple interface, generating data and tying everything together is rather complicated. Particularly for beginners. Only veteran marketers, I assume, would be able to capitalize on all the tools and features right from the start.

And speaking of veteran marketers, a couple of them have complained about inconsistent data. On the bright side, however, the cases are seemingly limited.

Finally, all things considered, SEMrush is ideal for digital marketers, agencies, business owners, and freelancers.
