Almost all websites have these, yes we are talking about headers, there is nothing more important than making sure your website header is beautiful. You need to remember that often the header is the first part of the website that your visitors will see. In this article we mention five tips for making a beautiful website header. If you feel we have forgotten any feel free to let us know.
1. Keep the message clear
There is nothing worse than a website header filled with so much clutter you have no idea what on earth is going on. Remember that the website header is the first thing you visitors will see, and just like anything else in life the first impression is always the most important one. The website header should instantly give your readers an idea of what the site is all about.
2. Size Matters
I know a lot of people will tell you that size doesn’t matter, however when creating a website header this is simply not true. You need to make sure the site header is neither too big or too small. If it is too small then the message becomes much more difficult to decipher, whereas if the header is too big you run the risk that people will never scroll past it.
3. Think about colors
There is nothing worse than a website header filled with a million different and clashing colors. Just like any other area of your website you need to keep your header color coordinated. Think about the colors you are using and make sure they fit the color scheme of the rest of the site.
4. Be careful of flash
Today more and more people are surfing the net from their iPads, therefore you need to be very careful when using flash in your headers. My suggestion is use HTML5 instead.
5. Think outside the box
Yes I know we keep preaching you should use a grid, and that is great and all, but rectangular headers are a thing of the past and have been for a while now. You need something that is unique in order to attract visitors and keep them coming back. While you can easily apply some boring header template, my suggestion is spend the time and create something new, trust me it will be worth it.
