This week we are all about using food a design elements, today we look at some mesmerizing pictures of food, then on Wednesday we will look at some amazing web designs that incorporate food in some shape or form.

Many photographers would argue that one of the most difficult subjects to take pictures of is food; there is a fine balance between making something look mesmerizingly beautiful and just downright unappetizing.

Former Microsoft executive Dr. Nathan Myhrvold, has combined his love for amazing food with his love for photography and has created an amazing book called The Photography of Modernist Cuisine.

Dr. Myhrvold captures food in ways we have never seen before, whether he is photographing the different layers of an artichoke or a salad being tossed into the air, he does it with such an artistic touch that makes these photos museum worthy.

Here are some of the best photos from the series!
