By calling them out like this aren’t we encouraging duplication and thus they loose their unique status? Yeah we’re splitting hairs but just a thought I had.

I see what you mean, however it’s a matter of utilizing these techniques as a way to practice and implement some (not all) of the features in your own navigation. Once you figure out and know how something works, then you don’t duplicate that same thing, but you build a bigger and better one.
