Are you looking at CSS as a flawed way of styling your website? If so, even though many "whisper" that CSS is broken it mostly relies on who writes the CSS.

If most focused on writing their HTML/CSS carefully, then we wouldn't have to worry about having any major problems. With that being said, CSS is still the best way to go for styling and strcuturing your web page layout. Use it cautiosly and make sure it's standard compliant.
