Good points, however, I agree with what others have said – most of your examples are not true corporate sites (with the exception of the Royal Bank of Scotland).

The definition of a “Corporation”:

A group regarded as individual by law: a company recognized by law as a single body with its own powers and liabilities, separate from those of the individual members. – Encarta Dictionaries

Good examples of Corporations (note I’m only referring to Corporations here, not their websites, of which many are poor indeed):

Coca-Cola http://www.coca-cola.com/index.jsp
Can’t say that I’m enthralled with their site.

De Beers http://www.debeers.com/page/home
Not a fan of their landing page, and the site is all-together too black.

Procter & Gamble http://www.pg.com/en_US/index.shtml
I’m impressed.

These are “Corporate Sites”. One needs to differentiate between small business, mid-sized business and big-business (i.e. corporations) when writing a post of this nature, otherwise, I like the points you make – all very relevant.

All of the sites you’ve shown are pleasant. They’re all professionally designed. However, none of these sites are progressive or unpredictable. Take the logo off any of these sites and you can’t tell them apart. This is also a list obviously influenced by one person’s taste because everything is extremely similar.

Good corporate design doesn’t have to be predictable.

Yes – this is a very Web 2.0 list – i have to say, I still haven’t gotten tired of this look. You put together a really good list. My favorites are the Versions and Squarespace sites.

some nice looking things in the list. However I failed to spot that many corporate websites, most of them are product or service websites.. and that as we all know, makes a difference in the look also

Perhaps a re-run of a similar post with actual corporate designs would be good
