29 Classic Horror Movie Poster Designs
When it comes to movies, the advertising poster is your porthole to what you can expect from the actual movie (or, what the studios want you to expect). One of the most popular genres is horror.
Horror seems to generates the most imaginative of posters. Have a look at the Saw posters, they are simple, but very creepy, certainly effective and they make you curious. Whereas the Cannibal Holocaust poster tells you exactly what you are going to get, gore, gore and lots of gore. Below you will see 29 amazing examples of the various types of horror movie posters.
Tales of Terror
Day of the Dead
Maniac
Chopping Mall
Beast of Blood
Evil Dead
30 Days of Night
Dead Alive
Dead Snow
Saw III
Apocalypse Now
Cannibal Holocaust
The Abandoned
Friday the 13th
Somethings Better Left Unseen
The Howling
Visceral
Hostel
Humpty Dumpty
Alphabet Killer
Flesh for Frankenstein

When I was a kid I used to love looking at all the horror movie covers in the video rental store. I actually remember seeing a lot of the older ones…great list!

Nice to see a few Zombie ones listed
Evil Dead has long had one of my favorite posters even though it tries for the horror side of the movie compared to how campy it ended up being. Maybe that’s part of the allure of it though?

Lovely collection of horror movie posters, don’t know if they’re all classic though!
Day of the Dead is an awesome film, but that poster is for the recent remake of the original film. The classic poster would be this: http://www.wrongsideoftheart.com/wp-content/gallery/posters-d/day_of_the_dead_poster_01.jpg

I love classic horror films. Poltergeist has to be one of my favorites. Probably the cheesiest one I own is a close tie between Children of the Corn and Cujo. Neat idea for a post!

I’m not a fan of horror films, still this is a great post. The posters you found were very imaginative. Some were even scary, as in not the kind of poster to look at after you’ve had a nightmare or when you first enter a room.

I grew up watching horror movies at very young age and sometime I wonder what my dad was thinking letting me watch such stuff. Seriously, it’s affected my entire life. Haha.

its kinda funny how the modern horror movie has become more comical than actually scary

Sarah, Children Of The Corn isn’t cheesy, it’s very, very scary. I would put it above Poltergeist with regards to terrifying the s**t out of me!

It was like a trip down memory lane. I remember how I felt looking at some of these horror movie posters when I was a kid. The Abandoned and Humpty Dumpty were scary no doubt….but my vote goes to the Saw posters.

Seriously? Seriously? There are a few great posters on here to be sure, but the overabundance of crap (2! for 30 Days of Night, 2! for Saw films, Skinwalkers, Alphabet Killer, and a bunch of other photoshopped crap that a 10 year old could compose) Are you a horror fan reminiscing or some tool looking through the latest “redbox” releases?
