now where no Earth is the metal guy HDR (let alone pure HDR)?
did you even see the original link?

I disagree with most of these. They’re badly over-stylized and ugly. HDR should be used to approximate the human eye’s view, with its uncanny ability to adjust for differences in lighting. The following are beautiful:

Just a few of my favourites.

The shot of the Metal-Guitarist (from the Band Behemoth), which fascinated me the most, is actually not a HDR-shot. “its not HDR” is written right under it on deviantArt.

of course the Behemoth shot is not HDR, simply because you cannot make real HDR shots from moving subjects. You need at least one long exposure shot so your subject would be blurry. And on top of that you have to combine several shots to make HDR so how could this one be HDR…

Honestly? I can’t wait for everyone to get over this style. I think it looks awful. And gimmicky. It’s already looking seriously dated to my eyes.

I have to agree with many of these comments – HDR is uninspired and contrived, and makes ugly photos look like something special while simultaneously disregarding any ideas of composition, etc. I admit, there are (some) legitimate uses for HDR – it can be an effective tool for just slightly increasing the dynamic range of a photo, but it has to be controlled and used very subtlety. Most of these look just like the photographer slapped the original image into a HDR software and clicked “convert”.
