Hard to take your advise about more viewer-friendly when it's a lot of white text on a black background and when visual examples are written out...

Good post, and a good start on making websites accessible and more usable (they are similar and related, but not exactly the same)...

There are a few very important things not mentioned here that will really improve the accessibility and usability of your website. For example: using CSS to control the presentation of your content, following standards and guidelines (e.g. WCAG), and using semantic markup to name just a few.

One tip to add: Don't use contrast text with a white background surrounding it. This seriously strained my eyes trying to read it.
Otherwise, really good article with good tips to remember.

Great advice, shame I had to put my glasses on to read it. The reversed out text even though good contrast was very fuzzy.

Rule #11. Do not set long passages of type in reverse type, as it's hard to read even for people with good eyes.
