These sites are generally somewhat disreputable because of the amount of low-budget jobs, price-eroding designers from India and China, and cheap work done, but they work for little jobs here and there. If you want a larger job with more prestige, www.authenticjobs.com (by Cameron Moll, a respected designer) is a great place for major jobs, both full-time and freelance.

Get your name out in the community by blogging, writing guest posts for major design blogs (I just did this one, see designshack.co.uk/articles/inspiration/why-are-childrens-books-good-for-des igners) et cetera. Submit your portfolio site to CSS galleries such as cssdrive.com Things like this can help get your name known by other designers and people looking for designers.
