Try SurrealCMS if you have the built the site using static pages.

In Surreal set up the FTP details, then tell it which page is the home page, it scans the rest of the site and gives a list of the pages. Then simply select the pages you want to make editable and edit the HTML to add editable tags. Then the clients can login to Surreal and edit those regions really simply using a basic editor.

Yea, Wordpress has too many restrictions in design and complex in maintenance, client is always messing it up, etc.... I mean a simple CMS that's not Joomla or Wordpress:)
